Day 2 in the Big Bad Ischl House…

We were both overwhelmed and so very touched with the amazing comments on my post yesterday. 😍 So many messages of support, love and good wishes… we can’t tell you how much it meant to us! A heartfelt thank you! 🙏 💖 😘

One thing’s for sure, we will do our bloody best to keep everything together and keep Landhaus Fay going… how could we not with all that support? 😁

So, on the back of all those wonderful good wishes, we both slept really well and woke this morning early (some habits don’t change apparently 🙄), full of the joys of spring and with renewed energy levels.

It was a beautiful sunny start to the day, cooler and cloudy later in the afternoon but perfect weather to get out in the garden and do more stuff.

Mark particularly loved the novelty of getting out of bed and straight out into the garden… since he’s the chief maker of breakfast, he is usually only able to get out there and do stuff he wants to do quite a lot later in the morning.

With rain due later today, we made the most of the time we had. Again, the village was its usual peaceful quiet, but intermittently filled with the sounds of industry; wood cutters, chainsaws, tractors trundling around etc, as everyone is making the most of the good weather to get out in their gardens/fields. We’ve grown used to these sounds, it’s never very noisy here and being a true country bumpkin, I find them strangely comforting and homely.

I’m sure there will be days ahead when this will feel quite depressing or confining, but for now, we are relishing the change from the routine and the opportunity to start jobs that have been bugging us for ages. We kept saying that there’s no way we would have allowed ourselves this much time off/closed to get stuff done, so we are looking on it all as a bonus at the moment.

Besides, physical effort and fresh air are good for the soul. That lovely feeling of being utterly knackered and aching at the end of the day because you’ve actually achieved something positive is a great feeling. It’s one of the things I used to love about ski holidays… I call it being ‘good knackered’. That and with the aid of the odd Ibuprofen, usually gives you a great night’s sleep!

Rain stopped play around 3.30… which is just as well, judging by the sound effects that accompany every attempt to get out of a chair, or climb the stairs… 😬 😂

The fire’s lit, we have Mark’s chicken stew that’s been brewing on the hob all day and the next couple of episodes of our current box set to watch on Netflix, assuming we can stay awake long enough!

Enjoy your evening folks and stay safe! 😘 😘

First job, cutting down one of the excessively low hanging branches from the walnut tree.
Wood chopping! Wood for our open fire is delivered in 1m long lengths and then cut to size as and when needed, by one of our most sensible purchases.. a massive circular saw, with appropriate protection for fingers 😉
Gratuitous photo of the house, van and mountains. 😁
Bright bursts of colourful crocus… spring is springing! 😊
Aten’s favourite place to hang out. He is sufficiently elevated at this spot, that he can survey his kingdom and keep an eye on the world at large. 😉 👑
Lovely Jackster, just chilling. 😍
Mark’s new epic mission… clearing out the long standing garden dumping ground to make space to build a 3rd compost bin. It’s a bit like a treasure hunt or an archaeological dig… plates… bits of fencing…. bits of metal…. various unidentifiable objects and a canoe… I kid you not… A CANOE….!!! 😯 😬 😂
Slightly more progress on the pathway/veg border project… 😴
Weeding and digging the veg patch
Ever increasing pile of stones.. 😂
Well earned beer!
Tired puppy = cuddly puppy. 😍
