Yesterday’s snow had all gone this morning, having disappeared throughout the day and overnight had been replaced by some crispy frost. The boys weren’t too disappointed and had a good run round the garden, chasing each other round and round the concrete base. I never tire of watching them play and especially now, wouldn’t dream of stopping them from having their fun… although I do wonder quite what state the lawn will be in this summer… 😬 🤨
It is still bitterly cold out and Mark decided that it was a good time to get the quarter’s receipts all logged and up to date. Mostly I do the accounts and admin stuff, but I massively appreciate that Mark always does the shopping receipts for me. He does the majority of the shopping, so it’s a lot easier for him to remember what the receipts are for, since they are all in German. It’s just another one of those little things that take a ridiculously disproportionate amount of time if your language skills are not up to par. We are learning more and more all the time, but I still remember our first food shopping expedition, it probably took us the best part of two hours, just to buy basic stuff.
I am eternally grateful to google translate and the like, they have literally saved us on more than one occasion! 😁 I have also been trying to fit in a few german learning sessions during this lockdown. It would be a huge advantage if my language skills have improved at the end of it all! 🤞
I managed to finish off my dining chair renovation project today and am pretty chuffed with how it came out. Not bad for a first attempt… if I do say so myself. I might even have a go at another one at some point, but for now this will do perfectly.. I mean, it’s not like we’ve got guests with nowhere to sit right now eh?! 😝
The afternoon was utterly and deliciously lazy. We spent it curled up on sofas, watching tv with the fire lit. We even had the ultimate treat – toasted crumpets!! Crumpets are another of those things that you just take for granted living in the UK and never give a second thought to. You can’t get them here and it wasn’t one of those things I’d ever really given much thought to, but you do miss them when you can’t have them! When they are brought out by lovely visitors (thank you Sophie!!), they go straight into the freezer to have on special occasions.
We’ve just discovered the series ‘Outlander’ and are loving it. Even better, it seems we’ve not been aware of its existence for 4 whole seasons… which means that’s our viewing requirements sorted for a while!
All in all, it was the perfect way to spend a bitterly cold day. 😁
Stay safe everyone xx
