Yesterday evening finished with bad, but not unexpected news… our good friends (and ‘the boys’ idols), Fliss & Sam, have had to cancel their Easter visit out here. Of course, we knew it was coming, but it still hits home each and every time to have these cancellations confirmed. My Mum also, should have been here right now and my bestest roomie, Emma should have been here last week and it’s heartbreaking to look forward to their visits for so long and then have them cancelled… not just one, but one after the other. It sucks! 😢
Having realised this morning that I’d got my days completely muddled up, it was Groundhog Day on the annual Hofer Plant expedition! Happy to report that a successful sortie was mounted this morning and mission accomplished! 👍 😁
It’s funny how these changes in your daily routine affect you so quickly. With no reference points… no guests, no events, no regular choir practice for Mark, no appointments, no bookings, you suddenly realise that you just lose all concept of days of the week and time passing. I had thought it was Tuesday this morning and Mark thought it was Friday…. it took a few minutes of conversation to work out exactly what day it was! 🙄 😂
Today was lazier for me but not Mark, he carried on with his mega project like a machine! I finally got around to finishing up yesterday’s update and just enjoyed sitting in the sun, occasional pottering around, faffing with my plant purchases and doing a bit more on the veg patch. Felt a bit tired today.. probably due to the sudden change in routine and unaccustomed physical exercise… using muscles that I apparently don’t use for skiing!
It’s all very companionable in the Hunter household at the moment, we are just pottering around doing our independent jobs, coming together every so often for a drink, a natter or food, but otherwise ‘just being’. Strangely, we are probably spending more time apart than we usually do. We are lucky that we are totally used to co-existing 24hrs a day, we work together, mostly socialise together, we’re rarely apart really. We are also lucky enough to have a house and garden that are big enough to lose each other in! So, for us, it’s actually a change and all feels quite relaxed really.
For me, it feels reminiscent of the family holidays at Pouvreau – my parent’s place in France – where the long, hot summer days of our holiday used to play out in a similar way. To honour this feeling and my Dad (with whom I used to share the scotch on these occasions), tonight’s ‘aperitif’ was my favourite single malt, – Dalwhinnie. And then disaster struck…… it was almost empty!! Enough for a wee dram, but that’s it, gone!! All of a sudden, shit got real in this house!! 😲 😬
Hey ho, back to the Port I go…! Prosit (cheers)!! 😁 😘
Stay safe everybody xx
